What Did That Say?

I couldn’t help but laugh!
As Linda and I were driving into town she glanced at a billboard and said, “WHAT?”
Then she started laughing.
The message said Get The New Android; but she glanced and thought it said Get The New Hemorrhoid.
Each of us has probably misunderstood something we’ve read in such a way.
The same is true of the Bible; we’ve misunderstood something.
Jesus used the phrase “You have heard that it was said…” (Matt 5:21, 33, 38, 43) several times.
They knew what was said but misunderstood it.
The best encounter is between Jesus and the Sadducees; The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, saying: “Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.” Matt 22:23-28
Indeed the Law said, “If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the widow of the dead man shall not be married to a stranger outside the family; her husband’s brother shall go in to her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her. And it shall be that the firstborn son which she bears will succeed to the name of his dead brother, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel.” Deut 25:5-6
But I don’t think the Sadducees cared so much for what the Law said as much as they wanted to entrap Jesus.
Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching. Matt 22:29-33
God’s word is not mere words written down on paper or spoken into ears.
God said through the prophet Jeremiah, “I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts.” Jer 31:33
God’s word is to be on our hearts!
Some people need to bring letters of recommendation with them or ask you to write letters of recommendation for them. But the only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves! Your lives are a letter written in our hearts, and everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. Clearly, you are a letter from Christ prepared by us. It is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on stone, but on human hearts. 2 Cor 3:1-3 NLT
God’s word should be read and His Holy Spirit should be allowed to speak that word to your heart!
Only then will it have it’s true meaning to you!

  1. I am amazed and very pleased when someone reads my lifes letter back to me. I am told Jesus can clearly be seen, evadence of His love and power are there. I can only say, “thanks to You Lord.” Yes I missread signs. Sometimes I miss-hear as well. Thank God for the kindness’ in the hearts of others.
