Realize you are sinful!

I have found that proponents of the gay lifestyle are opponents of the Bible.
Basically they all use the same argument to debate the Christian and that argument is Old Testament scripture on homosexuality is outdated.
Here is their reasoning; scripture says you shall not let your livestock breed with another kind. You shall not sow your field with mixed seed. Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come upon you. Lev 19:19
Therefore it would be sinful to do any of the above.
Scripture says you shall not permit a sorceress to live (Ex 22:18), everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death (Lev 20:9), and the daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the harlot, she profanes her father. She shall be burned with fire. Lev 21:9
Pretty harsh judgments that are not acted upon by society, therefore the scripture that says if a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death (Lev 20:13) should also be ignored.
The problem with the argument is the purpose of the Law.
The purpose was not to punish people but to make them realize that they are sinful.
Paul said, “I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, ‘You shall not covet.’” Rom 7:7
He also said, “The strength of sin is the law.” 1 Cor 15:56
And just because we are under grace and not under Law does not dismiss sin.
In fact the New Testament says quite clearly about men with men committing what is shameful. Rom 1:27
Jesus did not come to just love people into heaven but He came to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
Save from what? To save His people from their sins. Matt 1:21
What sin?
Read the Old Testament. It has a great explanation of what sin is!

  1. Pastor Tim, this is the exact thing I’ve been using while talking to ‘friends’ on Facebook. There are those who are homosexual or support the homosexual choice: I tell them I’m not condemning you as a person, I’m trying to show you that what you choose do is a sin. And it’s not a worse sin than stealing, lieing or anything else…it’s sin! They just happen to be more vocal about this particular sin and also wish to have me accept it as NOT sin. Then, I attempt to show there is salvation, love and hope only through Jesus Christ our Savior! I’ve been verbally attacked and called names…even threatened physically “if we ever meet personally”. I’ve used the analogy that if they were in a building that was on fire, but it was hidden in a wall or another room and they were unaware of the fire, it would be my duty, no matter their spiritual state at the moment, to go in and tell them. I’ve asked them what I should do if they refuse to admit the fire is burning? Leave them to burn to death in their ignorance? Or should I not even come in if I know they are “sinful people”. I have learned to spot the times when what I say isn’t going to change a thing…and I “shake the dust off my sandals” and leave them to their own discussions, which usually include reviling me and my God.

This whole discussion is showing me a few other things, as well. 1) There are too many Christians (and I have been one of them) who enter into these ‘discussions’ with “I think…”, “I believe…” and “It’s my opinion…”. We have GOT to stop doing this. None of those matter! It is only what God says that matters! My arguments, opinions and thoughts on any subject are irrelevant and faulty. I have begun to state more, “God says in His Word…”, “God’s Scriptures say….”

The other point I have seen hit me just this morning: How unimaginable is the height, depth and width of God’s love, compassion, patience and long suffering….that He would suffer Mankind to continue to strive with Him this long?! These issues that are becoming “hot buttons” of conversation are only bringing out the fact that those who follow God and His Word are, indeed, becoming a minority…a remnant. It sometimes seems as if the whole world has gone mad! And still…our merciful and gracious Father continues to call those who are lost; continues to mature His Saints. It is an extremely humbling thought.
