Memorable Scripture: Rich man and Lazarus

Luke 16:29-31
Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ But he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ”

Another memorable story is The Rich Man and Lazarus.
I don’t think this is a parable like so many others.
The previous story about a father and his two sons mentions no one by any name. In this one, Jesus calls one by a particular name – Lazarus.
A quick note: being rich does not automatically condemn you to hell and being poor doesn’t guarantee entrance into heaven.
What catches my attention in the story the most are the last three verses.
Abraham points to the Law and the Prophets (the Bible) as a means of salvation. Let people read God’s word and receive salvation.
The rich man disagrees and says a great sign is needed like someone rising from the dead.
Abraham rebuts this. If they won’t read God’s word and believe, they won’t believe even if someone rose from the dead.
How true!
Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, was resurrected and not everyone believed.
A twelve-year-old girl was resurrected and not everyone believed.
Jesus was resurrected and not everyone believes.
I believe! I’m persuaded. Believing in the resurrection brings the Bible to life.
