Memorable Scripture: Descended and Ascended

Ephesians 4:8-10
Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive,
And gave gifts to men.” (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)

What is the penalty for sin?
According to the Bible it’s death.
Sin is judged and punished.
Jesus told a story of two men that died. A rich man and a poor man named Lazarus.
Lazarus was taken to a place of comfort, while the rich man was in a place of torment.
In my opinion, to perfectly fulfill all that is required to pay the price for mankind’s sin, Jesus died and, according to our scripture, descended to the lower parts of the earth.
To me, that means hell or hades.
Was He in a place of torment?
I think He was to pay the price of sin.
But our scripture also says He led captivity captive.
I believe He also freed Lazarus and those with Him.
He declared victory over sin, something those in “Abraham’s bosom” never fully realized until now.
The victory is sealed on the third day when Christ rises from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He sat down, His work being complete.
You and I have victory over sin and death through the life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus!
