Memorable Scripture: Sweet and Bitter

Revelation 10:9 So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.” And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”

The Bible seems a big book to most.
There was a time many homes boasted a big family Bible on the coffee table of the living room.
I remember going into Christian book stores and looking at the Bibles. A good study Bible was always pretty hefty.
The content of the Bible itself is pretty daunting. It contains so much information.
I believe the “little book” given to John is God’s word. Perhaps it wasn’t the Bible as you know it.
Certainly, all things were written with the exception of Revelation, which John is in the process of writing, even though all writings are not compiled. That would not happen for a few more centuries.
Revelation is certainly different than any other book of the Bible. I know some of the Old Testament prophets are just as mysterious but not like Revelation.
The fact that the little book is little and your Bible is big, in God’s eyes His word is little.
His word is possibly condensed into simple words – love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, life, and judgment.
It does not take very many pages to put those words in a book.
It is written, “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Ps 119:103
Sweetness from words like love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, and life.
This is God!
However, the book became bitter in his stomach – judgment!
It is an unpleasant truth of God’s word.
It is the bitterness of the Bible.
God is love, tis true! But God is also righteous and there is a bitter reckoning.
