Stand On Your Own Two Feet

morning thoughts

Morning thoughts from Pastor Tim

Good Morning!

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. John 5:8-9
Several years ago I had a pastor that told me about one of his deacons.
He said the man would not come to church unless the pastor visited him during the week.
I thought how selfish and foolish it was for a deacon to act so childish.
Even a child learns to stand on his own two feet and walk without the aid of anyone.
Sure, for a while parents will hold the child’s hand while it is learning to balance.
Then parents will stand across the room with their arms open wide, coaxing the child to walk.
But once that child learns how to walk, there is no stopping it.
Someone that has been a Christian a while, and certainly a deacon, should be able to get to church without the pastor holding his arms open wide and coaxing them.
Jesus told the lame man to get up and walk and he did!
Do you think Jesus had to tell him the same thing the next day?
I doubt it.
We should learn to be less dependent on each other and more dependent on God.
Each of us should learn to stand on our own two feet and walk to the Father.
