Death Of A Leader

morning thoughts

Morning thoughts from Pastor Tim

Good Morning!

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Saturday was the 45th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
It was Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas at 12:30 p.m. CST when he was fatally wounded by gunshots while riding with his wife, Jacqueline, in the Presidential motorcade.
The investigation concluded that the President was assasinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, though there are many conspiracy theories and other conclussions as to what really happened on the fateful day.
It has been proven that at least 4 shots were fired from different locations.
The truth is we may never know the truth.
Another leader died almost 2000 years ago.
He had entered the city and was hailed as a king.
Within a few days they same crowd that cheered Him had turned against Him.
His death was accomplished by conspiracy as the religious leadership had been trying for quite some time to get rid of Him.
With the help of the occupying government, His death was accomplished.
But we know the truth of what happened as it was foretold centuries before He died.
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.
He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. And they made His grave with the wicked — But with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
Isa 53:4-10

  1. I remember that day as if it were yesterday. I was 17 years old and had stayed home from school that day with a cold. My mom and I were sitting on the sofa watching the 700 Club when the program was interupted with the awful news. We could not believe what we were hearing. We called my dad at work and we begin to pray for the president and his family.

  2. I was in nursing school in Corpus Christi, Texas and we had just gotten back to our dorm, after lunch, when someone heard it on the TV in our lounge. As we would normally have been going to classes after our lunch break, we instead all went to the chapel located in the hospital. It was a Catholic hospital and school of nursing, and a large number of my classmates were Catholic. Yet, we all went with them to pray for President Kennedy’s family. Some things you never forget about where you were or what you were doing, like 911. That is another day I’ll never forget, but, that’s for another day:)

  3. I was in a UIL tournament and was preparing my extemporaneous speech on, of all topics, President Kennedy’s inaugural address from the last election. We were all brought to the auditorium in the high school and told about the shooting and by this time his death. It was a room full of 10th to 12th graders and there was much wailing and crying. I wonder if it will be the same when the Lord comes and people realize they are left behind..
