I was cruising through the Proverbs this morning and I switched translations.
As a result I read something that I have never read before, which is quite logical since I tend to lean towards New King James Version.
Now the two translations don’t read exactly the same.
Whoever robs his father or his mother, And says, “It is no transgression,” The same is companion to a destroyer. Prov 28:24 NKJV
Then I read the NLT.
Robbing your parents and then saying, “What’s wrong with that?” is as serious as committing murder. Prov 28:24 NLT
I find the latter more eye opening because I hear a lot of young adults say, “What’s wrong with that?”
It’s not just about robbing parents either. It seems to go along with just about any sin.
I might say, “That person is gay!” The response, “What’s wrong with that?”
“They are living together!” “What’s wrong with that?”
“She got an abortion.” “What’s wrong with that?”
The list goes on and on.
I can tell you what is wrong with it, with us.
We break the heart of God because of our sin.
It’s not just those that don’t know Christ as Savior either. An unrepentant sinner is doing what comes natural.
But for those of us that have received salvation and still continue to sin and say, “What’s wrong with that?” to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17 NKJV
Here the double edged sword is clear. The end of this month saints are to send an empty red envelope to the White House. With a message on the back,”This envelope represents one child who died because of abortion. It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world.” Your message this morning would be a good attachment.
