For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night . 1 Thess 5:2
I’m sure if you’ve been in church for some time that you have heard that scripture.
It teaches that we don’t know when the Lord will return since we have no idea when a thief would strike.
Our church has been robbed 5 times.
Why?
We didn’t know when the thieves were coming or we weren’t prepared for their attempts.
I prefer the latter.
Since we install an alarm we’ve only experiened one attempted break-in. We still didn’t know when they were coming but we were prepared for when they did and it stopped them.
Paul continues to tell us, “But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” 1 Thess 5:4-6
This tells me that the watching, sober church will be expecting His return.
That the Day will not catch us unexpectedly.
When exactly is Jesus coming back.
Let’s see what His last words were; “Surely I am coming quickly.” Rev 22:20
He said that over 1900 years ago and we’ve been waiting for Him ever since.
Still, like the thief, it will catch some totally by surprise and be completely unexpected.
I may not be ablet o tell you the exact day and time but I am watching vigilantly for that return.
Keep watching, waiting, and expecting.
