Come, Make Us Gods That Shall Go Before Us

Why are there so many religions and mini-religions inside religions?

Why is it that within Christianity there is such a diversity of denominations with so many extreme views of the same Book?

The answer is obvious and comes out of the book of Exodus.

Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” Ex 32:1

Moses is seen here as a type of Christ or a type of God to the people.

He is MIA, missing in action and they begin to plot their own worship.

They begin to define who or what God is.

They question the existence of the Mosaic god, not knowing what has happened to him and rather than wait, they move forward.

Yahweh appears to have dealt with one specific ethnic group through the years; a specific biological string from Abraham of the Chaldeans, though God promised him that through your descendants, all the nations of the earth will be blessed. Gen 22:18 NLT

This did not keep others from joining this group nor did it keep this group from joining others.

Well to keep the whole thing short, when God delays – people run amok.

Not that I’m blaming God but the impatience of people, which is what is seen on Mt. Horeb.

God delays the 1st coming of Messiah and everyone makes up there own stuff.

God delays the 2nd coming of the same Messiah and we make up more.

Now we have thousands and thousands of religious beliefs.

We have truly said to each other, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us!”
