What can we learn by listening to false prophets, fake teachers, pseudo-Christians, and doctrines of demons?
Much! Provided the listener is well rooted in the absolute truth of God’s word.
For instance, in the days of Jeremiah, a prophet named Hananiah came along and said, “Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: … Jer 28:2
He said that God would remove the Babylonian threat and bring back all the Temple artifacts after 2 years and restore the king.
The message was encouraging and quite convincing. So much that even Jeremiah said, “Amen! The LORD do so; the LORD perform your words which you have prophesied.” Jer 28:6
Jeremiah went his way but God told him to turn around and say, “Hear now, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.” Jer 28:15
Hananiah died 2 months later.
Here’s what we learn, first, that God doesn’t go back on his word.
Jeremiah knew the truth of what God had spoken to him but was hopeful for a different outcome.
Each of us desires hope. Our current president was elected on the campaign of hope and change.
However this is the truth; there will be suffering, death, disease, famine, and many will die and have eternal damnation.
That’s a little negative but it’s true!
Jeremiah said it best when he said anyone could predict war and death but the prophet that predicts peace will be known as a real prophet when it happens.
Second, know that false prophecy comes in bits and pieces surrounded by a shell of truth.
Hananiah spoke truth at the front and end when he said, “Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying… Jer 28:2…I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon’ Jer 28:4, which God eventually did.
It was all the stuff in the middle that was wrong but a message or doctrine must be taken as a whole rather than pick and choose what you like or dislike.
A reminder that Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 2 Cor 11:14
Finally, false prophecy and teaching should encourage the Christian to check the facts from God’s word.
Just because Televangelist Pastor So-And-So said it, doesn’t make it true.
God’s word is the absolute!
I bring us this subject only because I’ve been showing some videos of other pastor/teachers ideas.
In viewing these we must compare “Thus says the Lord” with Thus Says Jack!
