Here in the south there are at least two things we hold dear to our heart – God and guns.
Those of us that know Jesus as Savior take our faith most seriously.
Whether saved or not, all of us take our guns seriously.
I’ve noticed how the price of ammunition has skyrocketed and is very, very expensive if you can find it at all.
I totally believe in the 2nd amendment to our Constitution which states a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
If it becomes a criminal offense to bear firearms then only the criminals will have them.
While I am not here to get on a soapbox about gun legislation it does become apparent that this is just one of many fronts that we are being attacked.
The tax on cigarettes just increased to [supposedly] pay for children’s health care. (Yes, and the lottery in Texas is used for school funding)
There was/is talk of super-taxing those in the banking industry that received bonuses from TARP funds.
And the CEO of GM was forced to resign by the administration.
The government already taxes gasoline to an extreme amount. They get money from it’s sale though they do nothing to pump oil from the ground, transport it to refineries, transform it into fuel, and ship it to the filling station.
So what is next?
Tax how long you stay in the shower or wash clothing?
Tax how much methane your farm animals expel?
Tax our churches because they aren’t taxed now?
It may seem far-fetched that a government would go that far but you forget about the premise of the Boston Tea Party. You know, taxation without representation.
Yet none of this is new.
In Jeremiah’s day the people couldn’t draw their own water or gather their own firewood.
Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens, And our houses to foreigners.
We have become orphans and waifs, Our mothers are like widows. We pay for the water we drink, And our wood comes at a price. They pursue at our heels; We labor and have no rest. We have given our hand to the Egyptians and the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. Lam 5:2-6
It would seem we need to begin lamenting!
