Linda and I have been dealing with a bout of food poisoning since Sunday evening.
We are suspicious of the tuna fish sandwiches we ate; perhaps it was the eggs.
Regardless of what it was, it made me sick as a dog.
I have not been that bad off since the snakebite incident, though that one lasted longer.
I’m feeling pretty good today but still haven’t had anything solid to eat. I’ve existed on chicken broth and Jell-O.
We didn’t expect to poison ourselves and we don’t expect to be poisoned when we go out to eat, though that could also happen.
When you think about the different food epidemics we’ve had like spinach, peanut butter, peanuts, and pistachios, it would be a great way for an enemy to incapacitate a nation or an army.
I’m reminded of a case of food poisoning in the Bible.
Do you recall this story?
Elisha now returned to Gilgal, but there was a famine in the land. One day as the group of prophets was seated before him, he said to his servant, “Put on a large kettle and make some stew for these men.”
One of the young men went out into the field to gather vegetables and came back with a pocketful of wild gourds. He shredded them and put them into the kettle without realizing they were poisonous. But after the men had eaten a bite or two they cried out, “Man of God, there’s poison in this stew!” So they would not eat it.
Elisha said, “Bring me some flour.” Then he threw it into the kettle and said, “Now it’s all right; go ahead and eat.” And then it did not harm them! 2 Kings 4:38-41 NLT
I wish I had detected something wrong after a bite or two and somebody had cleansed what we ate.
Perhaps we didn’t pray over it.
It is written, …and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 1 Tim 4:3-5 NKJV
If I failed to thank God for the food, then let me thank Him for making me well.
And remember to pray over your food today!
