So Jesus would be crucified on Wednesday afternoon, with Passover beginning at 6pm, Feast of Unleavened Bread the next evening at 6pm, then the Sabbath the next evening at 6pm, and finally the first day of the week (Sunday) the next evening at 6pm.
Passover is the 14th day of the first (religious) month, which is Nisan.
Easter is determined by an entirely different method that may or may not coincide with Passover.
Easter is always the first Sunday after the full moon that falls after the Spring Equinox.
This is why Easter can be anywhere from late March to late April.
This year it falls just right as Passover began last Wednesday.
But some years we are off by days or weeks.
For instance last year Passover was on April 20th but Easter (following the aforementioned formula) was on March 31st, that is, Easter was BEFORE Passover.
How did we mess that up?
When Jesus said, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming” (Matt 25:13) I can understand why we don’t know.
We’ve messed up the calendar!
Our calendar runs from January 1st to December 31st and our day from midnight to midnight.
Yet God’s calendar is based on the lunar cycle.
His day is from evening to evening (So the evening and the morning were the first day. Gen 1:5) and His civil year begins in our Sept/Oct with the religious year beginning in Mar/Apr.
Are you confused yet?
Well, don’t blame God, For God is not the author of confusion. 1 Cor 14:33
It would seem that man’s bright ideas about how to run things has messed it up.
How did we do that?
