Oh, How We Have Failed!

Have you read what God said concerning a ruler over His people?
In my Bible reading I stumbled upon it and found it very enlightening.
It starts out with you shall surely set a king over you whom the LORD your God chooses. Deut 17:15
We cannot blame this Administration or the previous ones for bad policies when it is we, the people that have erred in the choosing of our leadership by not seeking God and choosing the one that He has chosen.
One from among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not set a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. Deut 17:15
For the Israelites this would especially have meaning for one that believed in the worship of the Lord God, so this leader would be of the tribes and people of Israel.
For me, it says that a Christian, one that believes and lives by the holy standard or morality, ethics, and virtue should be a leader. Not one by mouth only but by deeds.
I’m not saying that we should (or shouldn’t) get a holy-rollin’, pew jumping, charismatic type in the Whitehouse, but if we did and he/she loved and lived God with all heart, mind, soul and strength, would it be any worse than what we have had over the past several years?
He shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the LORD has said to you, ‘You shall not return that way again.’ Deut 17:16
He should not be greedy at gaining for himself. Now we have problems with that in all levels of government!
And our leadership should not move us backward into a time of bondage. It seems to me as if we are in bondage to our government.
Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself. Deut 17:17
It looks as if our leader(s) should be pure in personal relationships; not going after this one and that one. For far too many years there has been infidelity in our government. I must say that sexual immorality is one charge that hasn’t be levied against Presidents Bush or Obama.
But the most important part follows; Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel. Deut 17:18-20
He had to copy it down by hand! What a great way to get the leader to remember “thus says the Lord!”
He would read it every day!
Follow its precepts!

  1. What is an overcommer? One who has walked through! Peter was an overcommer. Almost not once he took his eyes off the Lord. But once he cried out to the living God, Peter walked through the storm on the impossible cercomstances. We also will overcome these cercomstances. We are the enforcers of His victory. ( I heard that term on TV last Sunday) That’s me! That’s you!
