I’m not exactly sure what happened but Friday night I was watching TV and dozing a little bit, when suddenly my heart rate speed up.
I’m not talking just a little bit; it was very fast.
I could feel it beating in my chest and you could see it through my shirt.
I wasn’t light headed or dizzy.
I didn’t have any chest pain; I was just uncomfortable knowing this wasn’t normal.
After about an hour Linda called the neighbor across the road, who is an EMT and he brought his BP cuff.
My blood pressure was pretty normal and though the heart rate was still rapid, it had slowed down quite a bit by the time he arrived.
He advised me to go to the ER just so I could have an EKG done.
And I had succumbed to the decision to do just that when suddenly, as quickly as it started; it stopped and returned to a regular beat.
I could feel the difference instantly.
There wasn’t much need in streaking to the hospital now that the beat was normal.
I have had some rapid heartbeats before but never like this.
I must admit that I was probably a bit anxious about the whole event and that probably contributed to the problem.
Saturday I felt just fine.
You know, each of us is 1 heartbeat away from meeting God.
That moment could come at any hour of the day or night.
In shape athletes have “dropped dead” because of something wrong with their heart.
The Psalmist said, “My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Ps 73:26
I gave my heart to the Lord over 35 years ago.
It belongs to Him.
I don’t always treat my heart or my Lord with the greatest of respect when it comes to eating the right food or eating the right word.
I now really thinking I need to improve my diet of each.
Tim, You better have scheduled a Dr’s appointment to discuss this. This is (I believe) an atrial fibrillation and once they start, they more than likely will repeat. .
