As I stare out the window at 6 am, I see just a slim indication of daylight in the east.
The sun will soon scatter all the darkness and shed its brilliance on my world again.
A week from today it will not be so.
The sun will rise an hour later than today, according to the clock.
Daylight Savings Time begins at 2am next Sunday morning.
And while it will be nice to get home and have several hours of daylight to see and work by, I’m going to miss the sunrise.
It seems like we just turned the clocks back and hour, and we did, just last November.
Now we’re springing ahead already.
I really feel sorry for the kids that are catching the school bus in, what seems the middle of the night.
Though it was mentioned as a whimsical idea by Benjamin Franklin, daylight saving time began in the United States during World War I, primarily to save fuel by reducing the need to use artificial lighting.
Although some states and communities observed daylight saving time between the wars, it was not observed nationally again until World War II.
In 1973 DST was observed all year long.
Is it about saving energy?
Is it about less auto accidents?
Is it about more daylight for member s of Congress to play golf?
Perhaps we have made it more difficult to prepare for the day of the Lord’s return when we can’t keep the clock straight and on a standard time.
Jesus said, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” Matt 25:13
Should He decide to come at three in the afternoon; will that be standard time, daylight savings time, Eastern, Central, Greenwich Mean Time or Israeli.
It’s no wonder we don’t know the day or hour!
Perhaps a part of the meaning behind the verse is to get us to consider our deeds, atitudes. What will we be doing when Jesus suddenly shows up. Will we hang our heads in shame or look up and rejoice? All who know the Son of God should be about Gods will on a moment by moment base. This action will even cause more victory in our lives with our relationship with God, with finances, other relationships, job, etc.
