What You Say Does Matter

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Eph 4:29
At first sight I want to believe this is more inclined to filthy language but the real meaning of corrupt is rotten, putrid, and not fit for use.
That’s going to include more than just a dirty joke or a cuss word or two.
I’m thinking that if I say it’s a horrible day, I have just used a corrupt word.
That’s a terrible color; I hate that man; she’s so fat; he’s stupid; the list can go on and on.
James is right; the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. James 3:6
It’s not the big mistakes we make with our mouths; it’s the summation of all the little ones.
You can never curse a single day and still speak putrid words.
The Psalmist was very concerned with what he said.
My tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long. Ps 35:28
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. Ps 19:14
My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall give understanding. Ps 49:3
My mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. Ps 63:5
Let my mouth be filled with Your praise and with Your glory all the day. Ps 71:8
My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day, Ps 71:15
If he was that concerned with what he had to say, then shouldn’t you and I?
It is written that a man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth. Prov 13:2
Not only will those that listen to you be blessed by what you say, you will be too!
