The Women In My Life

In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works. 1 Tim 2:9-11
Linda and I stopped by to see my mother on Saturday.
Mother’s Day weekend is a good time to do that, you know!
She is doing well and is occupied in her bowling, which has taken her across the US and earned her several medals and some cash prizes.
But there are other women in my life that I also think about at Mother’s Day.
First, I there’s my grandmother on my mom’s side. Her name was Ellie. She was old fashioned, modest, and hard working. For years she got up before 5am to cook Grandpa’s breakfast before he went to work. She was quite the cook and story teller, often keeping us well fed and in stitches while sitting around the kitchen table.
There’s my Grandmother Swanson, who I remember as a very Godly woman. I have seen her reading her Bible and praying. She often spoke scripture to me and taught me right from wrong.
My mom’s sister is my Aunt Sarah. As I was growing up, she lived 2 houses down from us. Of all my women elders, she had a very profound impact in my life. She often baby-sat me while my mom was working so I viewed her almost as a 2nd mom. She also was very responsible for me going to church, as she’d pick me up on Sunday mornings.
My own daughter Kimberly has really impacted my life making me older than I should be by giving birth to children, thus making me a grandfather. (gee, that word still doesn’t sound right!) A gampy! (much better)
Linda is my best friend, my wife, my companion and has had the most impact on me above all the other women. She is still a wonderful mom and a great gammy or gigi, as they say.
She is the love of my life!
All of these women have had some influence on my life.
While my grandmothers were old-fashioned, conservative, and respectful, my mom and aunt are also the same way to a great degree.
A lot of today’s young women aren’t so.
Their attire is skimpy; their language is crude, and if you take a look at their Facebook pictures you’ll get a glimpse into what they are into.
To the young women I would say this; be respectful of God and of yourself. Treat your body and behave as if God is watching you all the time. (He is!)
Don’t let your girlfriends or guys con you into doing something you don’t want to do.
Seek the advice of older women of your church when you have a problem or a situation you don’t know how to handle. They will keep it confidential.
Listen to what your grandmother says. She hasn’t lived that long by being reckless and careless.
Love God and seek his blessing and guidance for yourself everyday.
