I overheard this story the other day; the wife was gone and the husband was out working in the yard. It was one of those hot, muggy East Texas days and he became rather thirsty.
He decided to hop in his pickup and ride up to the corner store to get a coke or Gatorade.
He wasn’t gone very long at all; just up the road and back.
When he arrived back home and got out of his truck he accidentally spilled some of his drink on the garage floor.
Since his shirt was all sweaty, he just removed it and wiped up the spill.
That’s when he looked down and realized that he was now only wearing his underwear.
Yes, he had been working outside all day and made a trip to the corner store in his undies!
In Matthew 22, Jesus tells a parable about a royal wedding and how everyone was dressed in the appropriate garments; except for one person.
The king approached that person and asked, “Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?”’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, “Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matt 22:12-13
In order to be welcomed by God into His presence and His kingdom, each of us must be wearing the right garment.
It is written for as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal 3:27
Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Rom 13:14
You must be “wearing” Christ; this is your Garment of Praise!
