The name is called out.
Arrayed in cap and gown, a student rises and walks across the platform; a handshake, a diploma, and the changing of the tassel from one side to the other.
Graduation is now complete.
Years of schooling are now behind!
What will this student go on to do?
I remember one of my teachers wanting a school picture of each of us.
She said, “One of you may become the President some day and I want a picture so I can say that I taught you!”
I’m sure if Debra Herman had that same teacher, she is proudly displaying a faded photo of her star pupil.
Debra and I weren’t in the same crowd, though I remember her after seeing her high school picture.
After 35 years, the Honorable Debra (Herman) Lehrmann is now a Texas State Supreme Court Judge.
I was honored to shake her hand and talk with her briefly!
It makes me feel good to know that a 1975 graduate of Ross S. Sterling High School in Baytown, Texas went on to such a great accomplishment!
I seriously doubt that I will ever stand before Supreme Court Judge Lehrmann since I am 53-years old and have never stood before any judge in my life because I’ve never been in trouble with the law.
However, there is another Law that condemns me and I will stand before the Supreme Judge; not only me but all will stand before this Supreme Judge including my fellow graduate, the Supreme Court Judge!
It is written for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: “As I live, says the LORD, Every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Rom 14:10-12
It is a judgment that none can avoided because it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, Heb 9:27
And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. Rev 20:12
And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev 20:15
At this point your pastor can’t help you, I can’t help you, and the Honorable Judge Lehrmann cannot help you.
Right now, today, the only person than can help you when that Day comes is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Accept Him as your Savior before He becomes your Judge.
Accept His mercy and forgiveness before He extends His wrath.
Accept His love before He has to turn away from you and say, “Depart from Me!”
Make Him your friend and Advocate before He passes a verdict of “Guilty!”
