“I want that, GeeGee. I want that!”
Linda and I hear Braeden say that all the time; and I’m talking ALL THE TIME!
Every toy commercial that comes on, he wants that!
It doesn’t matter what it is, he wants it.
It absolutely drives us both crazy.
He hasn’t understood the concept that he isn’t going to get everything he ask for.
You know, if he asked for things we want to give him, he would probably get them.
For instance, he needed some new boots and asked for some so we got him a pair.
I think if he asked for some shirts and jeans he would probably get them too.
How much are we like that towards God?
We ask for everything!
While scripture clearly says ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matt 7:7-9
Many take this verse literally as a formula, an “open sesame” with God to get anything they want.
It doesn’t work that way.
Consider this, now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15
When we ask of God, we must ask according to His will.
So what is the will of God?
His word tells you how to determine that and, therefore, conform your will to His.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Rom 12:1-2
In a nutshell, God’s ultimate will is to bring Him glory through the means of salvation.
God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
God’s ultimate will is for everyone to be saved.
