Right And Wrong

Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand. And the LORD said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”
And I said, “A plumb line.”
Then the Lord said: “Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of My people Israel;
I will not pass by them anymore.” Amos 7:7-8

Back when the big satellite dishes were popular I began to study and learn how the technology worked.
I then became able to replace parts, realign, fine-tune, or move the dish to a better, more convenient location.
I remember one day a man called me and wanted me to look at his dish.
He had bought a new receiver but the picture just wasn’t the best.
I went to his house, programmed his receiver, realigned the dish, and he was very satisfied.
I also charged him $100.
He didn’t seem to mind at all.
I suppose he was really pleased with the improvement because it was just a few days later a neighbor of his wanted me to help with their dish.
However they wanted it to be a cheap as I could get it so they said they would do most of the manual labor.
When I arrived to align it, the dish would spin around.
Come to find out they had dug a post-hole and just set the pipe in it and tamped the dirt.
I told them that the dish needed to be in concrete and straight up and down.
A few days later they called and I returned.
The dish was in concrete and solid as a rock but I couldn’t get it to line up for all the satellites, only for 2 or 3 at most.
I stuck my level on the dish and that told me it was leaning.
When I told the man about it, he told me that he “eye-balled it” best he could and it looked pretty up and down to him.
I told him it needed to be straight up and down.
“How was I supposed to do that?” he asked.
“Use a level!” I replied.
“But I didn’t have a level. What was I suppose to do? Go and buy one?”

Now I realize that I was pretty judgmental on the fellow.
I should have never required him to set the pole in concrete or try and make it straight up and down.
Once he did, I should not have said that he needed to use a level to insure that the pole was perpendicular to the ground. (I probably should not have used the word perpendicular this morning. It makes me sound too hoidy-toidy!)
I certainly should have not charged his “happy neighbor” a hundred dollars, which was considerably cheaper than a dealer making a house call; but that’s irrelevant..
It’s probably my fault that I got into the business of satellite dishes to begin with.
And it was my fault that I couldn’t make a leaning dish work because when I left it would only track 3 satellites.
What I should have done was told him to just dig a hole, put the dish in the hole, and point it at the sky. Then go inside and enjoy the TV.
But that would have been a lie!
There is such a thing as what is right and what is wrong.

  1. The Word of God tells us that God Himself does not want us to be ignorant. What is there in this world that He did not create? God did not create a dish, or a car, but where did that knowledge come from? When we watch TV and an unknown word is used I get my dicionary. What keeps a person from asking what a word means when in conversation? I’ll ask. My IQ is not a fruit. Judgement belong to the Lord. Yes the Lord Jesus came down to mans level, still does. Jesus moves us higher & higher. If we stay on one level we’ll stagnate. Wonder if we’ll gain knowledge when entering heaven? When I pray Father God reveals things to me so that I can pray more effectively. He helps me enter into wisdom, and understanding. There is no room for ignorance. You do know that a judge will say that ignorance of the law is no excuse
