Testimonies From The Dead

Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Luke 23:39-43 I often wonder if the thief on the cross ever regretted accepting Jesus as Savior so late in life. I know he’s glad he did but it is the timing. Deathbed salvation, as they’re called, still occur and I’m glad they do. I rejoice when I hear of someone accepting Jesus. For the one that does it, it’s bitter-sweet. They often dwell on the years they’ve wasted and the opportunities, now all missed. But it is not the dead that share their own testimony; it is we who are alive. The thief on the cross has been long gone for 2000 years and his story is told over and over and over. I dare say that his conversion has had greater impact on more than that of the apostle Paul. The thief never got to attend a church service, never got to visit a sick friend in the hospital, never got to pray with anyone, and still he is greatly remembered. I have heard of several people that, knowing the end of life was near, called for a minister to visit them. Each accepted the Lord and may have had regrets for the sake of others. Their testimony of salvation is now in our hands and should be used to reach the lost they never had opportunity to!

  1. At a funeral I attended yesterday, the man was in his 70’s and had been sick for 3yrs-he had professed to everyone that he was saved but two months before he died he called a preacher from his childhood to visit with him and told him he was not prepared to die..He told him he had never accepted Jesus and knew if he died he would go to hell..I have prayed for this man but never knew exactly how to pray-he was verrry sick for 2 of those years..I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit spoke to him and he was saved before he died..but we will not all have this opportunity–what if the preacher had not made it to him..I am so sad at the thought that he was in such distress for years–his wife said he was always uneasy and never settled..I pray that if someones not sure that they will make sure they have accepted Jesus and live for him everyday–
