The Large Print Giveth…

Linda and I stopped by a Christian Bookstore on Saturday to look at Bibles.
There are many different translations, study Bibles, devotional Bibles, reference Bibles, paperback, imitation leather, and genuine leather.
I’m quite particular about my translation, though I’m not hung on King James.
I like to read and preach out of the King James but you may notice I also use the New Living Translation (NLT) quite a bit.
When it comes to the translations of the Bible, I always look at some key passages just to make sure the translation doesn’t say something weird.
I like to check Isa 7:14, Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel and Luke 1:26-27, Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
It’s very important that Jesus is born of a virgin.
That’s just one example.
When it comes to study Bibles, I check to see what is said about salvation, baptism, gifts of the Spirit, and the return of Jesus.
However the older I get, there is one more thing I like to pay attention to!
It’s becoming the main thing I look for in a Bible.
That’s the size of the print!
I have some Bibles that I bought some 30 years ago and I really have trouble reading from them now.
I guess that’s also the reason I like the Bible on computer so well; I can zoom in and make it as large print as I need.
While at the bookstore an elderly man was next to us looking through the Bibles also.
What kind was he looking for?
Large print, very large print!
Someone once said, “The large print giveth and the small print taketh away!”
