Last Saturday night there was a terrible auto accident just south of San Augustine. It involved a head-on between 2 vehicles; all five were killed.
I wasn’t there but I can only imagine that in the minutes before it happened, an accident was the farthest thing from anyone’s mind.
I don’t know what the day or evening consisted of for any of them.
They were all males, perhaps they day involved hunting or working around the house.
Maybe they had been Christmas shopping or all went out to eat.
They may have been traveling home or going to over to a buddy’s house.
As the 2 vehicles got closer, an accident was the farthest thing from their minds.
Even as they could see each other’s headlights, the only thought was to keep traveling down the road.
But it was not to be.
An error in judgment, a quick glance off the road, or some other kind of distraction led to this tragedy.
It has impacted a town and a community where nearly all of us knew at least one of those killed.
You are not much different than these men.
You never dwell on having an accident and not making your destination.
You’re making your plans for Christmas and New Years.
You’re preparing the menu, buying gifts, hanging decorations; life goes on for you.
The Bible makes it clear to us don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring. Prov 27:1 NLT
I, too, make my plans and prepare my next breath and step.
And still I’m cautioned by James 4:13-16, Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
I sure don’t want to end on a downer!
For those that know Jesus as Savior, it is an expectation we wait for.
So do not fret nor worry about what tomorrow may bring. You don’t know what it is anyway.
Live for Jesus and shine His light before everyone!
