Write It On Your Heart

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”
So he answered and said, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.'”
And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Luke 10:25-29
Here is another example of Jesus asking what the scripture said.
Unlike other times, the lawyer gave the correct answer.
But like so many others he had no understanding of what it really meant and asked, “Who is my neighbor?”
This question led into the parable of the Good Samaritan.
In the story the Samaritan is contrasted against 2 others which should have know what the scripture said but also did not know what it meant; a Levite and a priest.
God forbid that we should act the same.
This is why it is written let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Prov 3:3
