Read It With Your Heart

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!”
But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Matt 12:1-4
Once again we find Jesus saying the words “have you not read”.
It seems there are some that want the Bible to say what they want it to say and therefore bend it that way.
Given enough time it becomes doctrinal truth.
But doctrinal truth cannot be truth if it contradicts Biblical truth.
In the scriptural example, the Pharisee’s were upset because the disciples were doing something as simple as picking grains of wheat and eating it.
It wasn’t the eating it was the picking that seemed to violate the Commandment #4 about keeping the Sabbath day holy.
However the rabbi’s had painted themselves in a corner when it came to the Sabbath.
Jesus said in another place, “And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath.” Matt 24:20
That’s because the rabbi’s had limited travel on the Sabbath to about 5/8 mile.
Well, if you’re running away from an enemy attacker on the Sabbath, you may have to travel more than that.
Again it’s not enough to know what the word of God says, you must feel the intention behind it.
The word of God is not designed to condemn people and push them away.
It is here to bring people into a righteous relationship with God, which can only be done through Jesus!
