Can You Survive This

Then Moses said, “Thus says the LORD: ‘About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt; and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the animals. Then there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as was not like it before, nor shall be like it again. Ex 11:4-6
Since before last Thanksgiving I have been preaching/teaching on the 10 Plagues and the effect on the Egyptians.
It seems that they persevered through the first nine but not the tenth.
You can endure many things like disease and natural disasters, and you have, but you cannot survive death, it is always fatal.
The death of the firstborn utterly devastated Egypt, which had already been badly damaged from the previous plagues.
This last one touched every household; there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead. Ex 12:30
Most of us think about children or babies as firstborn but I am in my mid-50’s and I am a firstborn. No matter how old I become I will always be a firstborn.
The death toll was fantastic.
Next time I will give an example of how terrible this plague and the only way to survive.

  1. Death is all around us. It seems grief veries according to the relationships. Tracy was first born. I can’t help but wonder why the Comforter was so strong with me during that time of ajusting to her abrupt absence. I met a woman last year who was griving the five year old death of her 40 year old son as though it happened yesterday. Once she told me of her son’s receiving Christ & of the “blessed hope”, during prayer she was released from the grip of grief. If not kept in check grief can kill, distroy, spoil ones life. YEP, got my attention!
