The Stubborn Nature of Man & Beast

Last night Linda and I took the grand’s to a Donkey Basketball Game in Broaddus.
It is always hilarious to watch grown men and women try to wrangle a beast to one side of the court or the other so a goal can be scored.
You can only make a basket if you’re sitting on the donkey.
For the most part, very few participants rode the animal down the court; most were dragging them.
And when some of the participants got to the point where they could actually hop up on the back of the donkey, it would lower its head and off they’d go, flat on the floor.
Watching the stubbornness of these animals, I couldn’t help but think about the Bible.
There is the instance of how Balaam’s donkey saw the Angel of the LORD standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand, and the donkey turned aside out of the way and went into the field. So Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back onto the road. Num 22:23
But stubbornness transcends more than just a donkey; it’s a good word to describe people!
Listen to Me, you stubborn-hearted, who are far from righteousness. Isa 46:12
They are impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them. Ezek 2:4
You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? But your ancestors did, and so do you! Acts 7:51 NLT
But the one that I think of the most was spoken by the prophet and judge Samuel; For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. 1 Sam 15:23
The stubbornness of donkey’s in a fun basketball game makes for great entertainment.
But the stubbornness of people is a dangerous attitude before God.

Lord, remove the stubborn heart from me and let me always be humble to Your will!

  1. Way back in high school a councilor told me to train my anger and stuborness to beifit me. I see were God teaches us honing our objectional trates for His glory. After all He knit us together in the womb for His pleasure. All things exsist for Him. It’s when we reject Him, wont allow Him to hone us that we become a thing of ugliness-we bring about the very rejection upon our selves.
