Great Moms

Who are the great moms of the Bible?
Well, of course there is Mary, the mother of Jesus; that’s the first that comes to mind.
Here is a woman given the task to raise God’s only Son; there’s no pressure there.
Elizabeth the mother of John the baptizer would be another.
She was rather old and past child bearing years when she had John.
Yet her and Zachariah nurtured the child in a Godly way.
Though she isn’t mentioned by name, let’s consider the mother of David, King of Israel.
David wasn’t the psalmist by being raised by a dad and a bunch of brothers.
There’s other great women that are notable moms; Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel.
Little did these women know they would give birth to patriarchs and a great nation of people.
Neither did they realize they would each be included in the lineage of the Messiah.
How about Jochebed, the mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam?
She gave birth to the great prophet and law giver; plus the priestly lineage.
Of all the great moms of the Bible I would like to recognize 2 of them together.
One was the mom of the other, who was the mom of a young pastor named Timothy.
Paul said, “I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.” 2 Tim 1:5
These 2 ladies are mentioned by the Apostle as women that put Timothy on the path of salvation and ministry.
These 2 women laid the foundation in faith and prayer; mother to daughter, daughter to son.
My own ministry comes from the prayers of grandmothers, a mom, and an aunt.
My ministry continues by the grace of those prayers and the help of another mom; the mother of my own children, my wife Linda!

  1. My wish is that for every mom to be mentioned the dad also would hold the same honor. Like the parents of John. The man was created first The woman as his helper. Which of the two will have the greater responcability before our God? God is gental with us. We do have the BLOOD of His Son. We are under grace not the law, but that does not mean the set responcability has changed. There is no shadow of change in God.
