Will This Marriage Last?

Last time I discussed the news of the engagement of NBA player Kris Humphries to Reality star Kim Kardashian.
Mind you, I have no problem if they want to get married; that’s their business.
However, will the marriage last?
It seems that so many that are in the spotlight of stardom end up in divorce.
I’ve witnessed TV interviews with stars that said wonderful things about each other; that their marriage will last; they’ve found their soul-mate and the next thing you hear is divorce!
You can research how many movie stars, sports figures, politicians, and millionaires’ marriages end in such a way.
The reason is simple; many of these couples were not devoted to each other but to the careers, power, and money they had spawned.
The Bible says a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Gen 2:24; Matt 19:5; Mark 10:7; Eph 5:31.
Neither couple is to be joined to secular or worldly things; but to each other.
God instructs for wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, Eph 5:22-25
In this the marriage couple is given instruction.
The wife is to live for her husband as the church lives for Christ.
And the husband is to die for his wife as Christ died for the church.
This can only be accomplished with the love and power of God; though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Eccl 4:12
God becomes the third cord of the marriage; binding it and making it stronger.
I’m not the world’s most perfect husband but Linda and I have been married for 32 years.
How has that happened?
I’ll tackle that next time!
