Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?” John 21:21 NLT
What about him?
That question from Peter is one that we ask every day about someone at work, in church, or at school.
I do believe more people worry about other people than they worry about themselves!
It’s only natural and takes real effort and discipline to keep your mind on yourself.
There is a constant worry about someone getting ahead or not doing enough work.
People are afraid someone will get something they themselves don’t have.
I remember when Hurricane Rita came through in September 2005; we were devastated in this area.
No electricity and, even though we had a generator, gasoline was hard to find.
Of course FEMA rolled into town and word began to spread about free gasoline, tarps, toiletries, and food.
I can still hear someone telling me about eating an MRE (meal, ready to eat) and how delicious it was.
Well I had to have some too.
Linda and I hot-footed it down to Broaddus where my truck was given 10 gallons of gas, I asked for and got a case of whole house tarps, but there were no more MRE’s and I had to settle for tuna fish and peanut butter meals.
We really didn’t need all of that but only went down there because EVERY ONE ELSE WAS DOING IT AND GETTING SOMETHING!
That kind of thinking is what has brought our great nation to the point of ruin; the idea that we deserve something for free and we’re afraid someone else is going to get more than me.
It is written “Whoever does not work should not eat.” 2 Thess 3:10 NLT
There were many others that did have a genuine need during those post-Rita days; I probably contributed to them not getting it.
We are too concerned over the business of someone else.
If everyone would follow this thought, the world would be a much better place; Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Phil 2:3-4 NIV
And if you want something FREE, then accept the salvation that Jesus offers.
If fact, wouldn’t it be great if everyone went to church this weekend because they were concerned that someone was going to get a blessing and that they weren’t!
