Early

I’ve been up since early this morning when a wrong number woke me up at 2am.
I lay in bed for an hour and was just about to doze off to sleep (maybe) when a thunderstorm started rumbling its way toward me.
So I got up.
Now that may be early for me but it may be late for you.
I notice how many are doing something on Facebook and they’ve never gone to bed.
Early means different things to different people.
I recall how someone told me he was leaving early the next day.
The next day I saw him at 9am and said, “I thought you were leaving early this morning!”
The reply was, “I’m just about to leave!”
To me, he was burning daylight because my idea of leaving early is 6am; to others it may be 11am.
It makes me wonder what time it was when I read about these early risers.
Gen 19:27 – And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD.
Gen 22:3 – So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.
Gen 28:18 – Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.
Ex 24:4 – And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain,
Josh 6:12 – And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.
Mark 16:2 – Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.
And I guess it doesn’t really matter what time early is, whether it’s 4am, 7am, or 10am. It is written O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You. Psalm 63:1
The important thing is to seek God early, everyday; which is one reason why I don’t mind getting up so early – to seek God.
