This one is for Katie!

Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he does is pure and right. Prov 20:11
I want to take time to honor my friend.
Van Walker was one of my very best friends through high school. He was not an acquaintance – we hung together, ate lunch together, sat together; we were together on weekends, whether at the beach or camping on the Trinity River.
Of course it was more than just Van and me; we had other friends that were with us most of the time.
But Van is not the friend I want to honor; it’s his daughter, Katie.
Katie was killed in an accident last Friday, February 10, 2012.
I had only met her once a year ago when I traveled just south of where I work to meet up with Van and his family.
Just the few minutes I conversed with Katie, I knew there was something different about her as compared to other teens.
This is confirmed by her Facebook page.
From December 18, 2011 – I’m a daughter of the King, and I want to be treated like one 🙂
December 7, 2011 – “My Savior was born in a Wooden Box, and died on a Wooden Cross!”
December 1, 2011 – “Faith is not believing that He can, it’s knowing that He WILL.”
I saw that on September 29, 2011 she went to a concert. It wasn’t some rock or rap group or some country singers; it was Hillsong LIVE Worship Night in Houston.
I went further back in Facebook time to June 29, 2010 when things had changed in Katie’s life when her mom, Sherri, was diagnosed with cancer and was beginning chemo.

Day by day….

Wow. As I was pulling up the page to post this new note, I went and read the last note I posted, roughly a year ago….Wow, things have definitely changed….these things that seemed soooo important and life changing then, are the furthest thing from my mind nowadays….but, there is ONE THING that stills remains the same, and it will NEVER change. MY GOD IS BIGGER THAN ANY CANCER. He stays true to His Promises.
Romans 4:20
“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.”

We will come through this victoriously! The Word of God proclaims that we are “MORE THAN CONQUERORS”!!! My mother will not succumb to this cancer! She is holding true to the promises of her Savior….
Psalm 91:16
“With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

For those of you who know my mom, she hates MEDICINE! She knows that prayer is the best medicine!
But she prayed and decided to start the Chemotherapy treatments, and allow God to use this “medicine” as part of His ultimate plan of VICTORY!

From March 2010 I find her posting scripture and her own comments.
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat it’s fruit.” Proverbs 18:21….friends, choose your words carefully. you never know how deeply those words might hurt someone else 😦
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” Ps 42:1-2 ♥♥

Probably the one post that stuck out the most was 2 years ago – February 8, 2010; I wish I could rewind the last year of my life, watch it all in slow motion, and see where it went wrong. Maybe then I could fix it? :-/

Sure her Facebook page has other teenage posts like bowling, going to the country, school, church, family, and friends.
But there are no pictures of drinking or skimpy, revealing outfits; what you see is a wholesome, virtuous young lady that desired to praise and worship God with her words, her voice, and her life; and so she still does!
Her Facebook page will remain open. Some time ago she told her dad that if something ever happened to her to keep her Facebook going! And so it is!
To her parents, Van and Sherri, I would like to point out something Solomon said; a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, Prov 13:22
It seems to me that Katie has left an inheritance for you!

  1. I know the emptiness, pain of the sudden death of a child. I also know the joy of the aboslute truth of the promises of God. Our loved ones that know Chirst personaly are alive. And it wont be long before we shall be reunited…forever. This life is but a vapor. In the mean time it seems our days are long. Memories filled with their working faith are powerful in asisting our well being. (What a lesson) We that are alive shoud be a show of faith at work. That means we have to go through some pretty aweful stuff. I am so thankful Katie knows the Lord, face to face now, because of the faith & teaching of her parents.

  2. Tim, thanks for the wonderful tribute to Katie. Over seven hundred showed up to celebrate her life tonight. As her father, I am truly humbled.
