Do you have a favorite number?
I do, I always have. My preference is actually two numbers; 5 and 7 and probably stems from the fact that my birthday is May 7th.
There are many people that play a lottery using the same numbers over and over. And there have been a few instances of winners that played for years using the same series of numbers over and over.
I am not into any kind of numerology or believe that my life will change if a 5 or a 7 pop up in front of me. If that were the case I would go nuts every time I walked down the steak sauce aisle at Walmart and saw a bottle of Heinz 57.
But even the creator of the universe seems to play with numbers.
In the Bible we can find 40 days and nights of rain for Noah, 40 years of wandering in the wilderness for the Israelites, Moses on a mountain for 40 days and nights, 40 days of taunting by Goliath, 40 years of reign for David, and Solomon, 40 days of Ezekiel lying on his right side, 40 days and Nineveh will be over thrown, 40 days of fasting for Jesus, and He was 40 days with the disciples from resurrection to ascension.
That’s just a few examples of the number 40 being used.
But the number that brings fear into the heart of many people comes from the Revelation.
He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. Rev. 13:16-18
I remember a time when I had “666” as my number at Dairy Queen. I told the lady to call it out as “999.” She did!
But 666 as a number is not bad in itself, it is how it will be used for the glory of Satan in the future, to enslave mankind and keep him from being free.
But if someone offered me $666.00, I would take it. I am not superstitious of the number itself.
And as for the meaning behind this number, I think it is clear.
Man was created on the 6th day; hence it is the number of a man. And as this man of sin sets himself up as a god and will be worship and adored as a god; the meaning is clear from God. 666; he’s a man, he’s a man, he’s a man.
Don’t fear the number and don’t fear the man but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Mt. 10:28
