Friday evening, Linda and I participated in the Relay for Life. This is an all night event for cancer survivors and those currently fighting the disease.
Linda and I haven’t done an all-nighter and I doubted this would be the evening to break that trend.
We arrived sometime around 5pm.
We walked, prayed, watched the entertainment, visited with friends, ate, and had a really good time.
But sometime around 10pm I could feel myself going downhill. It was already past our bedtime.
11pm came and we made the decision to start packing up and head home.
I remember the emcee asking how many were going home. I raised my hand.
Then the statement was made that though we could go home and get a good night’s sleep, cancer patients can’t just “leave” their cancer behind and get a good night’s sleep.
To be honest, my first thought was that even if I stay all night, a cancer patient will still be fighting cancer tomorrow.
There is nothing I can do to fight against cancer other than prayer.
And I think there is another killer that is a greater threat to everyone – sin!
When sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. James 1:15
I don’t have a cure for cancer but I do have a cure for sin.
Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. 1 Peter 3:18
Jesus insures us a safe trip home to the Father. It is because of His sacrifice for our sins that we are able to have eternal life and not death.
Sin is a great destroyer of life but even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Rom 5:17
I cannot promise you a cure for cancer but I know that you can have the cure for sin and death today by accepting Jesus as your own personal Savior.
We spent the morning in a law office answering questions that could not be correctly answered, for example; in the last 10 years how much money was spent…? We puzzeled, we cried, even laughted. No one said any thing about God. After finishing the discovery, we were walking out the door, I turned and said “God bless you.” Then the atmosphere lite up.I know this case wont be as the others in the past, because God is our Helper. And HE is working with ladies who know Him! I do not want to be any where my God is not welcome, nor be involoved in a action He is not part in. As long as our God is with us, no matter what happens,WE WIN !!! Life is hard, even painful. In the end, with Christ, WE WIN !!!
