False Teachers

I know that there are some pseudo-Christians around; a pseudo-Christian being a false Christian. The Bible even speaks about them in 2 Tim 3:5 saying they will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly.
I often read about people quoting from “other” books of the Bible.
There are many “gospels” that you can read these days, all available on the Internet. But these writings were not considered to be inspired by the Holy Spirit or out-right heresy and were not included in the Bible you have.
One such book would be the Book of Enoch.
Though you can read this on-line, it is not included in the Bible and especially not in the Hebrew scripture (the Old Testament).
Why?
There are many great Christian writers today and in the past. Imagine using the books of Moody, Spurgeon, Evans, Stanley, Dobson, or Tozer and adding what they written into the Bible.
Perhaps what they have said is good and correct but God chose not to have their writings added to His scripture.
Then again, maybe something each of them have written is wrong; perhaps something I write is wrong.
God’s word cannot be wrong if it is the truth.
So when it comes to reading about God’s demands for you, the best source is His Word!
Some of the other writings can be very beneficial to your marriage, God relationship, for teaching, and preaching; but God’s word should always be used as the basis for those writings.
Don’t be fooled and swayed when someone comes up with a new revelation; a new doctrine or insight into God’s word.
Paul addressed this in his letter to the Galatians; Gal 1:6-7 – I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.
Peter also said, “There will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words.” 2 Peter 2:1-3
Don’t be fooled.
In these last days there will be more and more false teachings and heresies.
The best way to recognize false teaching is to learn real teaching from the Bible.

  1. The Lord bless you pastor Tim. My question would be, how do we measure truth or error? It’s by placing it against a standard. How it measures against a thing. Since we all, irrespctive of denomination or christian standing, measure what we consider to be true against what we believe to be truth, how would we know error? For me I measure what I believe to be true againt the apostles doctrine. “The faith once delivered” (Jude3) Its on that basis I can then judge what is truth and what is error.
Thanks for a thought provoking question today.
    The Lord bless you
    Paul

  2. Even in Jesus’ day people had trouble knowing “truth”. God said to love. If we had a realy good understanding of that action, love, we’d know the truth. We wouldn’t seek revenage, wouldn’t be so free with fullfilling desires. O the inter peace we could have. How wonderful life would be if we all preferred the others well-being. The Son of God is TRUTH. In Him alone is freedom.

  3. I could be mistaken but wasn’t the book of Enoch removed in the 3rd century from the scriptures? Maybe I’m thinking of another book, not sure, however if it was originally included who was it that deemed it not sacred cannon?
