At last Job spoke, and he cursed the day of his birth. Job 3:1
That’s a pessimist; but I’m not in his situation, nor do I want to be.
I bless the day of my birth, which is today; well, at least the anniversary of it!
With the exception of being taken from a warm, safe place, being extracted into this really cold and bright room, and some masked man slapping my behind – it was a pretty good day.
I realize now that I would have outgrown my original habitation anyway so it’s best they did all of that to me; except the slapping part.
My again-birthday was pretty good too; though it doesn’t fall on the same day.
The Psalmist said a few things about his birth!
Ps 22:10 – I was thrust into your arms at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born.
Ps 71:6 – Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you!
Of course there is that one birthday celebration that went wrong; but at a birthday party for Herod, Herodias’s daughter performed a dance that greatly pleased him, so he promised with a vow to give her anything she wanted. At her mother’s urging, the girl said, “I want the head of John the Baptist on a tray!” Matt 14:7-8
I don’t mind a party but I don’t want dancing; I don’t want drinking and I don’t want a head on a platter.
Today I will be content to live for and praise my God.
I will be happy to return home to my family!
And I will be glad to call it another great day!
Happy birthday!!
