Want to be perfect?

You are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matt 5:48

Are you looking to be perfect?
I have the perfect scripture for you that will help you on your way!
Let’s start with this one – James 3:2, If we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
There you go! Just control what you say and your whole being will follow!
James 1:2-4 also encourages with these words; when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
Watch what you say and be joyful when your faith is tested!
It’s not getting any easier, is it?
He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Eph 4:16
Okay, if we add that one, now you need to be part of the body of Christ and doing your part to help the other parts grow full of love!
Jesus told one man, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matt 19:21
For many of us trying to perfect, we strive to achieve it through our good deeds. The Bible covers this too; Gal 3:3 – After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?
Despite what the word of God says I don’t think we can accomplish all these things to be perfect.
Paul himself said, “I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Phil 3:12-14
Our perfection is not in our ability but in His to give it to us. Heb 10:14 says for by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
And Heb 12:1-2, let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
So it becomes even easier than first expected. Perfection is in Christ! When we are in Him then we are perfect!

  1. Bridle my tongue?! I wanted Jesus to remove it from my mouth after I discovered His love. Instead He changed my way of thinking. Every now & then I trip over my tongue, but quickly I seek forgiveness from the one who received the poision. Then His forgiveness. Thank God for the cleansing power of the Blood of Christ! And especialy the power to forgive in others.
