Adopted

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. Eph 1:5
Our topic touched on adoption last night.
When you are born into a family, neither you nor your family has much say about it. You do not get to choose what family or type of family to be born into.
Many times natural born children are not wanted, which is evident by the extremely high abortion rate.
But it’s different with adopted children; they are always wanted. In fact, a couple will wait for years on a waiting list and pay large amounts of money for the opportunity to adopt.
God chose to adopt us into His own family; we are wanted!
He searches us out, waits for us, and then adopts us into His own family.
I asked the question of the church, “If you could choose to be adopted, what kind of family would you look for?”
I had expected someone to say a rich family or perhaps to be adopted by a sports figure or movie star.
The answer I got took me fully by surprise.
One young lady looked up and said, “You and Linda!”
After blinking wildly for a few moments, I finally gained my composure and asked her why.
She said she remember coming over to our house to play with my children when she was a little girl. She recalls that there was always peacefulness, we all went to church, and I would play with them from time to time.
I was really touched by her response but I don’t think Linda and I are going to adopt her. Praise God, that though we won’t, He will!
