Who said, “’He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” Luke 4:10-11
Since it’s a quote from Psalm 91 the correct answer is David but Satan quotes it in Luke in tempting Jesus.
I find this very intriguing that Satan would quote scripture. It doesn’t burn in his mouth or cause him to run off screaming in the night. The truth of the matter is he quoted it quite correctly.
With that said, he also used it in a way that benefited himself and not to glorify God.
There seems to be quite a bit of that going around these days; people quoting scripture for their own benefit.
I’ve heard televangelists do it.
I’ve read where “Bible school” professors have done it.
Even non-Christian’s get in on it.
Please remember that not everyone that quotes scripture is doing it to edify Jesus.
I have heard drunks quote the Word and tell me they believe in God.
Great, even the demons believe — and tremble! James 2:19
It’s no big feat to believe in God, it is to live for God.
Recently I’ve heard activists use it against Christian’s, especially “Judge not!” (Matt 7:1)
I find it interesting that they seem to make a judgment as to whether or not we are judging!
The word of God is set down for a specific purpose.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17
The purpose is to give instruction and direction so that our lives will be transformed and made complete.
Notice that this is for all scripture not just certain parts. We don’t need to take bits and pieces of God’s word but take and apply all scripture to our lives.
So listen to the scripture spouters and see if they include all of God’s word or just what benefits them.
Scripture Spouters, hmm I know a few of them.
