Get in (Biblical) Shape

I remember in high school that we had to do some weight training. Everyone got a turn at bench pressing; some were able to push up 200 lbs. while others only managed 90 lbs.
I found myself somewhere in between lifting around 130 lbs.
We were then instructed that every day for a week we would all do 10 repetitions on the weight machine and at the end of the week we should have increased our bench-pressing abilities.
It was hard and tiring to do 10 rep’s on the bench, pressing, lifting, pulling, leg’s, arm’s, and the back.
At the end of the week all of us got another opportunity to see what we could press and sure enough, coach was right, each of us pressed an average of 10 lbs. more than the week before.
The same theory will work for your spiritual life too.
If you repetitiously pray then read your Bible, you will find yourself becoming more strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Eph 6:10
You see, it is written that bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. 1 Tim 4:8-9
That does not mean that God wants us to be weak, unhealthy, slothful, and out of shape. What it does mean is that He desires for us to take care of our bodies but to care for our spirit more.
No matter how healthy you may be, the day will come when you will give in to death; your body will stop but your spirit will live on.
I know I could stand to lose some weight and walking every day would not do me any harm.
But the only person it will really benefit is me.
Think about it; giving yourself a Mr. (or Miss) Universe body will not do one thing to change anyone else; whereas if you read and study God’s word you will be well equipped with a spiritual “muscle” to win others to Jesus.
Like weight lifting rep’s, the more you win the easier it becomes and the more you want to win to Jesus.
So, open your Bible and give me 20.
