The Man That Saved The World

It happened late one afternoon. Maybe you were picking the kids up from school, or standing in line at Wal-mart. Perhaps you were getting supper ready or settling down to watch television.
Across the globe, some were going to bed and others getting up. In one time zone everyone stopped for lunch and in another they were just leaving for work.
Stanislav Petrov was a Soviet army officer monitoring the satellite system for signs of a U.S. attack. The year was 1983, and his instructions, if he detected missiles targeting the Soviet Union, push the button and launch a counter-offensive.
Petrov was on duty September 26, 1983. At half an hour past midnight sirens blared, warning lights flashed, and computer screens were showing nuclear missiles on their way.
His instructions were clear, give the command to the main computer to begin an irreversible chain of events launching all Soviet nuclear missiles at the U. S.
But Petov hesitated. Something wasn’t right.
The computer screen showed five I. C. B. M’s heading towards Russia.
“Why would anyone launch just five nuclear missiles at us?” he thought.
His decision was to go against his orders and do nothing.
His decision was a correct one because it was found out later that there were many bugs in the Soviet early warning system.
Petrov is hailed as “the man who saved the world.”
And yet there is another Man who is saving the world. Yet, many are oblivious to His salvation as they pick up the kids from school, shop at Wal-mart, cook, watch television, and generally go through the daily routine of life.
The information about Petrov was filed away for years and was finally released many years later; the other has been told for years and years.

  • For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Titus 2:11
  • Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Cor 6:2
  • Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12
  • This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners… 1 Tim 1:15
  • God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 1 Thess 5:9-10

Don’t let this news get filed away as a “secret document.” Open your mouth and proclaim the salvation of the Lord.

  1. So true!!! Just as I was reading the story,it doesn’t hit home until AFTER you read it. The wrong choice in that decision would have been permanent and the one on salvation is permanent. You can’t look back (after) and change it.

  2. Wonderful life changing Words of God. To whom do they not apply? Yet it seems they (the verses) are not being preached in regard to our president. Is not this a good time to pray for his salvation and wisdom for our selves as God’s plan unfolds. I do hear hate speech from redeemed lips. Except able to the world is anything other than praise & thanks giving. There go I had someone not ask God to grant me repentance. All of us will stand before the One & Only Creator. Knowing each person will hear either join Me, or depart form Me and what “depart” means. I want to pray for his salvation more than complain & accuse. God has told us, in the Bible, the end time would be like this. So, why are we complaining? Shouldn’t we be praising Him?
