Hurricane/Super Storm Sandy caught the Northeast by surprise. The pictures and stories of the devastation are heartbreaking.
Subways are a major mode of transportation and they are flooded.
Gas lines are hours long and there may not be any fuel once you get there.
Streets are flooded with sewage.
Power is out to five million.
Some natural gas lines have been ruptured and the hiss of the escaping gas can be heard in many places or it can be seen bubbling up through the flood waters.
Homes have been floated off foundations.
Some hospitals have had to evacuate patients to other facilities.
After this sub-tropical system made landfall, it combined with a winter storm and now record-breaking snow storms are taking place.
One sea side amusement part had the huge rollercoaster float into the ocean.
Texans understand the destruction of such storms, though we are more prepared for hurricane force winds and storm surge. Then I recall the devastation of Hurricane Ike on the Bolivar Peninsula; a total loss of all but one beach house.
If you visit that area today you’ll see new, colorful beach houses everywhere. It’s almost as if nothing happened and it shows the resilience of the human spirit.
Each day someone is facing some kind of storm in their life. It could be cancer or it may be a job loss. Perhaps it’s a death in the family or a divorce.
How prepared are you for a disastrous storm in your personal life?
I know one way you can ready yourself for any disaster – Jesus!
It is written when the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation. Prov 10:25
On the night a great storm hit their small boat, the disciples became very afraid for their lives. Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and waves.
The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” Matt 8:27
If He can calm a real storm, then He can calm the mishaps that take place in your life.
These awful stores & locations…I think of Moses in the wilderness with all of Israel. There were those who would not go along with the rebels. Today many spiritual leaders have publicly repented, so many more in their closets. My heart hurts for those suffering because of the storms. If there is to be peace on all sides, we all must make peace with God through Christ. It is obvious, reject God…do without His blessings! It does seem odd to thank God at this time, but He says to thank Him at all times, & in all things! Those who have not should try it & see what blessings come out.
