One day Zechariah was serving God in the Temple, for his order was on duty that week. As was the custom of the priests, he was chosen by lot to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and burn incense. While the incense was being burned, a great crowd stood outside, praying.
While Zechariah was in the sanctuary, an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the incense altar. Luke 1:8-11
What are the odds of Zechariah being assigned the duty for this particular week when the angel, Gabriel would catch him in the Temple?
God’s timing is always impeccable! He always reveals Himself to you when you need it most and when you’re more apt to hear what He has to say.
If he were still home, Zechariah would have the hustle and bustle of the household chores, the wife, and neighbors to contend with. Not much time alone to here from God; that’s not to say that God cannot speak to you at your home.
However, He did not choose to speak to Zechariah at home but waited for that one time in his life when he would be serving in the Temple.
When God reveals himself to you, it may not be for everybody!
There was a great crowd outside praying and not realizing what was taking place inside the sanctuary.
Even as Zechariah delayed coming out, the crowd thought something had gone wrong.
Perhaps they thought of the two sons of Aaron that died when they offered profane fire before the Lord.
The angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Luke 1:13 That prayer was for children, which God answered in His own time and in His own place.
He recently did this for me too!
And like Zechariah, I had to get off to myself to hear what He was saying to me.
If God will do it for Zechariah and if He will do it for me, then I know He will do it for you too!
In my own life, whenever I have heard directly from God, it has always been when I am alone. From when I first accepted Him as Saviour, to this day.
