Have you ever heard God speaking to you, even through a minister, and felt confused or disturbed?
Sometimes it is difficult to understand what God is trying to say.
Take the case of Mary when Gabriel shows up and says she is highly favored of God.
Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God!” Luke 1:29-30
Mary soon discovered the meaning behind his words.
You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” Luke 1:31-33
Though it was a good explanation, it still left Mary confused and questioning exactly what he meant.
Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”
The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she’s now in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:34-37
I have discovered the more you give yourself to the Holy Spirit, the more you will understand His word. And it is okay to ask God questions. You won’t receive an answer unless you ask a question.
God’s word is not meant to be mysterious to you; it is a revealing of God Himself and what He requires for a relationship with you.
You, too, have found favor with God!
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Rom 5:6-8
