I remember my first sermon in front of a crowd, other than my home church. The year was 1976 and it was at White Rock Baptist Church.
I had a message built up inside of me that I just had to get out.
It reminds me of something God said to Jeremiah – Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire, Jer 5:14
I also remember my text, which wasn’t limited to just book, chapter, and verse; my sermon included anything and everything from Genesis to Revelation.
The total time spent delivering this sermon – 15 minutes tops!
Perhaps I was a bit like Paul when he wrote the Corinthian church and said, “When I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” 1 Cor 2:1-2
Now I think many overlooked the unstructured nature of the message because of my age and inexperience. All I really knew and all I really wanted to share was what Jesus had done for me and how absolutely marvelous His word is.
There would come a time that God would lead me to a particular college where I would learn discipline and knowledge of His word.
I’ll share more on that next time.
I remember those days. I tried to give everything the Lord revealed to me. My teaching was jammed packed & fast. My instructor advised me to pray about dividing the Word.God is amazing. He showed me what was just for me & then that that was to be given to the children. Now So many years later…I’m still learning.
