Yesterday, today, and tomorrow!

yesterdayThe building where CrossRoads is located is an old skating rink. It’s 100 feet long and 50 feet wide, more or less.

The land on which it sits was once the sight of Holy Ghost filled tent revivals. My wife, Linda, lived within shouting distance of the location and still recalls hearing the singing, preaching, and praising.

However the building was constructed in 1948 on old State Highway 147 south of Broaddus.
I moved into the area in 1975 and the building was already at its current location, 8 miles north of Broaddus on SH 103. At that time it was known as Reagan’s store and you could buy gas and the kind of items you’d find at a mom and pop store.
I often talk about the times I would eat a bar-be-cue sandwich, drink a Big Red, and play pool in the location of the current sanctuary. Little did I know back then, huh?

When the store closed down it became many other things – restaurant, feed store, auction house; but mostly it was empty.

You never know what a person or building will become. A drug addict today becomes a doctor running a rehab center tomorrow.
An empty building today becomes a center for preaching the Gospel, encouraging people, praying, and healing.

It’s not unlike God to do this sort of thing.

Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. 1 Sam 16:11-13

A simple shepherd boy today becomes tomorrow’s king.
The baby of the family becomes the slayer of giants.
The youngest of eight becomes the ancestor of the Messiah.

It’s amazing what God can do – starting today!
