Wait

wait on the lordI’ve made my fair share of mistakes. Most were made because I wasn’t patient enough to wait.
There are times I rushed to buy something only to have it go on sale a week later.
There is a story in the Bible that gives a great example of mistakes caused by not waiting on the Lord.

Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies all around, that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.”
Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.”
But it happened that night that the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying, “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?
“When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 2 Sam. 11:1-5, 12, 13

It appears that even prophets can make mistakes when they don’t wait on the Lord. It is easy to get excited about doing the work of God but it must be done in His time.
Nathan was so enthusiastic about David building a house for God that he encouraged David to go and do it but this was not the will of God at that time.
Had he prayed about it before speaking so quickly, he would not have had to go back and tell David, “I made a mistake.”

In my church, sometimes I act really slowly at making a decision and it is for this same reason. I don’t want to jump pass where God wants us and I don’t want to make a mistake.
I am not always successful. Often I become a Moses striking a rock instead of speaking to it and I cause God, my church, and myself great grief.

But God is ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness. Neh. 9:17

We serve a God that desires for us to wait on Him and do His will at His choosing.
It is best to wait for the Lord as it is written, those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, hey shall walk and not faint. Isa. 40:31

When you pray – wait on the Lord.

When you fast – wait on the Lord.

Although it may take hours and days, perhaps years for God to answer, wait on the LORD; be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD! Ps. 27:14
